EDITOR'S NOTESeptember 2026

Dear CIGFARO Members, Stakeholders and Valued Readers, Welcome to the September edition of the CIGFARO Newsletter.
As we approach the final quarter of the year, this edition reflects on the continued work and commitment of CIGFARO in supporting excellence, professional development and good governance across the public sector.
A key focus this month is the 97th CIGFARO Annual Conference, taking place from 5–8 October 2026 at the Durban ICC, under the theme “Reimagining Public Finance Leadership for a Changing South Africa.” With the conference just around the corner, preparations are well underway to bring together public finance professionals, policymakers, political leaders, academics, industry experts and other stakeholders for meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange.
The conference programme offers a diverse range of keynote addresses, panel discussions, masterclasses and breakaway sessions addressing some of the most pressing issues facing public finance and local government. It provides an opportunity for delegates to engage with new ideas, share experiences, strengthen professional networks and explore practical approaches to building resilient, accountable and future-ready public institutions.
As we prepare to gather in Durban, we encourage our members and stakeholders to actively participate, engage in the discussions and make the most of the opportunities presented by this important annual platform.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our members, partners, sponsors, speakers, contributors and stakeholders for their continued support and commitment to CIGFARO. Your participation and contribution remain central to our collective efforts to advance excellence in public finance, audit, risk and performance management.
We look forward to welcoming you to Durban and to a conference filled with insightful conversations, meaningful connections and opportunities to reimagine the future of public finance leadership.
Happy reading, and we look forward to seeing you at the 97th CIGFARO Annual Conference!
